The Ozona Lions got their second shutout victory in a row, 36-0, over the Reagan County Owls Friday night at Lion Stadium. The Lions defense held the Owls to 106 yards and negative 8 yards passing for a total of 98 yards. “We knew we were capable of this, we just have to keep practicing,” said Lazaro Rodriguez. Sophomore Carlos Cantu led the Lions with 21 tackles and one tackle for a loss. Lazaro Rodriguez and Jesse Vega each had eight tackles. Joe Salas and Jose Dominguez each had six tackles, and Aiden Fuentes, Aaron Martinez, Zachary Talamantez and Emmanuel Vengas each had five. Venegas also got a safety for the Lions. Jacob Childress grabbed an interception, Vega got two sacks and Abraham Rodriguez and Venegas each got a sack. On the offense, Senior Quarterback Alec Lara led with 263 yards passing. He completed 13 passes on 18 attempts and threw for four touchdowns. Lazaro Rodriguez, Childress and Joe Perez were on the receiving end of Lara’s passes each scoring a touchdown for Ozona. Lara also rushed for one touchdown and 61 yards. “It feels good getting the second shutout in a row. We expected it. Now we have to get another one next week,” Lara said. Abraham Rodriguez had 112 yards on 11 carries. Sebastian De La Cruz had 42 yards receiving and four catches. Talamantez had two catches for 78 yards and one touchdown where he left everyone behind. Ozona had a total of 201 yards rushing. “We are very pleased with the progress we made. Defense got another shutout and our offense did well excluding a few turnovers that prevented more touchdowns and continued drives,” said Athletic Director and Head Coach Kyle Freeman. “We have to continue to be balanced offensively and be aggressive on the defense.” Ozona is now 2-1 overall. They will face the Harper Longhorns for their homecoming game this week. Harper is 0-3 coming off a 32-7 loss to Ingram Moore. Kickoff is 7:30 p.m. Friday at Lion Stadium.
