HARPER STORY AND HIGHLIGHTS
Holding Harper to only 38 total yards of offense, the Ozona Lions rolled to a 68-0 victory during Friday’s homecoming game at Lion Stadium.
This was the Lions third consecutive shutout win.
“It feels amazing, especially as a senior. I know every one of these underclassmen are working toward getting more shutouts. It was awesome,” said Senior Jacob Childress.
Ozona forced two turnovers that led to points on the board.
“The defense did another great job and smothered Harper all night long,” said Athletic Director and Head Coach Kyle Freeman.
Sophomore Carlos Cantu led the team with eight tackles. He also caused and recovered a Harper fumble.
Childress had seven tackles and Senior Lazaro Rodriguez had six. Lazaro Rodriguez also had a sack and caused and recovered a Harper fumble.
Joe Salas also had a sack.
“My team has been playing hard. If it wasn’t for my teammates we wouldn’t be where we are at. We are working super hard in practice, very disciplined in practice. We deserve this win. Next week we are to come for our next opponent and get another shutout,” Cantu said.
Offensively, Senior Abraham Rodriguez led the Lions in rushing with 104 yards, 35 yards receiving and three touchdowns.
Senior Quarterback Alec Lara threw for 179 yards passing, including four touchdowns to Abraham Rodriguez, Jaden Fay and two to Zachary Talamantez.
Lara also had 10 completions on 13 attempts and rushed for 43 yards.
“We had another good game on both sides of the ball,” Freeman said.
Cantu had 64 yards rushing and a touchdown.
Jose Dominguez had a touchdown on a 50-yard kickoff return.
Seniors Aiden Fuentes and Lazaro Rodriguez also scored for the Lions.
Talamanez caught the ball three times for 57 yards.
Childress had a 32-yard catch that led to a touchdown.
Sophomore Lane Smith was eight of nine attempts on extra-point kicks.
The Lions (3-1) will face Junction Friday. The Eagles (2-2) are coming off a 38-28 win over Menard.
Kickoff is 7:30 a.m. at Junction.
