Lions, Lady Lions, compete at Lubbock

LIONS, LADY LIONS, COMPETE AT LUBBOCK

LUBBOCK - The OHS Cross-Country Teams competed at the Lubbock ISD Invitational held Saturday at Mae Simmons Park. This meet gave the teams a chance to run where the Region I competition is held. The Lions finished third as team. Team standings – 1. Sundown; 2. Panhandle; 3. Ozona; 4. Fort Hancock; 5. Boys Ranch; 6. Bovina; 7. Lockney; 8. Smyer; 9. Christoval; 10. Post; 11. Tahoka; 12. Forsan; 13. Hale Center. Humberto Torralba finished second in the event with a time of 17 minutes, 37.5 seconds. Manuel Torralba was seventh at 18:06.7. Also running for the Lions: 23. Bryce Gray, 19:30.1; 26. Jason Lopez, 19:40.2; 29. Adam Hopper, 19:44.6; 43. Melvin Mejia, 20:17.3; 44. Camron Perez, 20:18.5. JV Lions: 79. Daniel Hernandez, 20:59; 144. Julian Dominguez, 22:24. “The boys each ran their best time of the season to date,” said Coach Jeff Shelton. “The JV boys ran well in a very crowded field.” The Lady Lions also competed in the event. The team finished 15th overall. Kenzee Talamantez was the top runner finishing 19th at 13:39.6. Also running for the Lady Lions: 60. Ysabella Flores, 15:03; 71. Krysten Webb, 15:18.9; 106. Jacque Medina, 16:50.4; 111. Alondra Hernandez, 17:18.6; 114. Charli Oglesby, 18:11.6. “The girls did a good job on a highly competitive meet. It was our first time this season to run in cooler weather and mud, and all of our runners responded well to the conditions,” Shelton said. The OMS and OHS Cross-Country Teams will compete today, Oct. 2, at Mason. They will then travel to Sonora Monday for that meet.
