OHS CROSS-COUNTRY

The OHS Cross-Country Teams competed at the District 7-AA Meet on Oct. 16 at San Angelo State Park. The Lions won the meet advancing them to the Region I Meet on Monday, Oct. 28, at Mae Simmons Park in Lubbock. Team results: 1. Ozona; 2. Christoval; 3. Forsan; 4. Miles. Humberto Torralba was the individual district champion at 17 minutes, 28.54 seconds. Manuel Torralba finished second at 17:30.89. Jason Lopez was fifth at 18:28.20; Adam Hopper 11th at 18:45.55; Camron Perez 13th at 19:07.47; Bryce Gray 14th at 19:17.56; Melvyn Mejia 16th at 19:43.56. “This was our number one goal all season. Five of the seven varsity runners ran their personal records for the season, and the other two were six seconds or less from beating their current personal record. We have good depth on our team and will head to Lubbock to meet our second goal of the season, which is a trip to the state meet. These young men have worked hard throughout the summer and into this fall and our times are starting to drop as we expect. It’s an exciting time for our cross country team as we continue into the championship phase of the season,” said Coach Jeff Shelton. Kenzee Talamantez finished fourth for the Lady Lions advancing to the regional meet as well. The Lady Lions finished fourth as a team, short of advancing. Team results: 1. Christoval; 2. Eldorado; 3. Winters; 4. Ozona; 5. Forsan; 6. Miles. Lady Lions results: 4. Talamantez, 12:46.06; 15. Ysabella Flores, 14:04.33; 22. Krysten Webb, 14:48.38; 26. Roslynn Mendez, 15:05.71; 29. Alondra Hernandez, 15:39.20; 30. Jacqueline Medina, 15:45.63; 32. Charli Oglesby, 16:35.08. “The girls placed fourth with five of our girls running their personal records for the season and the other two running very close to their season personal records. Kenzee ran an agressive race with her fourth place finish. I’m very proud of all our girls for their effort and commitment this season. They had the courage to get out there and do something that many won’t do, and I have a ton of respect for them because of that,” Shelton said. The JV Lions won the meet. Results: 1. Daniel Hernandez, 12:33.95; 2. Arturo Guerra, 12:50.23; 3. Julian Dominguez, 12:57.41; 4. Hermin Hernandez, 14:28.15; 5. Pedro Elizondo, 14:35.69. “The JV boys worked very hard for us this season and got better as the season went on. Several were competing for the last spot on the varsity roster deep into the season. I’m proud of them and their efforts all season,” Shelton said. Talamantez will run at 10 a.m. followed by the Lions at 10:30 a.m. Monday in Lubbock.
