OMS LIONS POUNCE BUFFALOES
The OMS Lions traveled to Forsan to play the Buffaloes on Oct. 17.
The Lions played with enthusiasm and great effort to secure a win at both grade levels. The Seventh Grade won 14-12 and the Eighth Grade was victorious 28-0.
The Seventh Grade Lions began the game at their 35-yard line and after a methodical march down the field found the end zone on a Michael Daniels quarterback wedge behind Tristyn Timms, Abel Martinez and Ian Savala.
The Lions then recovered a mishandled kickoff and returned it to the 30-yard line, but turned the ball over inside the 10-yard line. The halftime score was 6-6.
The second half resulted in both teams scoring, but the Lions held the lead, 14-6, on a successful two-point try by Ryan Hurst after a Daniels touchdown.
The Buffaloes moved the ball down to inside the Lion 20-yard line and after a Daniels’ pass interception, the Lions took the victory knee to end the game.
The Lions were again outnumbered, but the effort and enthusiasm towards the game proved to be the deciding factor in this out outcome.
The win is attributed to the following factors: an outstanding performance by the defense led by Hurst, offensive being productive with many players playing different positions on various plays, and the offensive live sustaining blocks for successful plays.
The Eigth Grade Lions again pitched another defensive shutout led by Rigo Treto, Robert Barrera, Tad Reynolds and Dusty Smith.
The score at halftime was 6-0 on a Rigo Treto off tackle run.
The second half the Lions blew the game open on back to back possessions that resulted in touchdown passes from Smith to Mathew Daniels.
The last score of the night came on another Treto touchdown run.
The Lions ended the game on the Buffaloes 1- yard line as time expired.
A huge shout out to the offensive line, as a unit, are becoming a difference maker in our games.
The Lions made a few offensive adjustments and played sound defense the second half to secure another victory for the Lions of Ozona.
The OMS Lions will face Winters starting at 5 p.m. Thursday at Lion Stadium.
