OMS 8TH GRADE BEATS CENTER POINT 28-10

The OMS 8th Grade Lions took on the Center Point Pirates at Lions Stadium before a packed crowd Thursday, Sept 8th. The game started off with a fumble recovery by the Lions on the opening kickoff and a promising drive began but was negated by a Lion fumble on the Pirates 20 yard line. This would be the only miscue the Lions would make on their quest for a victory that resulted in a 28-10 win. The scoring began with a Hudson Fowler pass to Michael Daniels and a successful 2 point conversion made the score 8-0 for the Lions. The defense played hard and gave the ball back to the offense on a fourth down stop by a host of Lions led by Corey Ybarra. The offensive line of Tristin Timms, Michael Flores, Jacoby Ramos, David Esparza, and Leo Rodriquez created a few seems that allowed the running game to move the ball and score another touchdown. The Lion defense led by Ryan Hurst and Daniels gave the ball back to the offense with 2 minutes left before half and after two timely completions to Daniels from Fowler, the offense found the end zone once again. The Lions held a 20-0 lead starting the second half. The Lion offense scored on its first play from scrimmage the second half on a 60 yard scamper by Daniels and Lion lead extended to 26-2. The Pirates advanced a failed two point conversion for a score. The defense bent but never broke the rest of the game. The Lions secured the 26-10 victory with two Michael Preddy quarterback wedges in the last 1:13 seconds of the game. Both Coach Marquez and Coach Lester shared, “How proud they were of the effort of the young Lions who defeated a very talented Center Point squad.” The young Lions would like to express their gratitude they have for the cheerleaders, fans, and parents who come and support their efforts by saying a loud and proud “RAWHIDE!!” The young Lions will play a split schedule next Thursday October 22--- the 8th grade traveling to Brackettville to face the Tigers and the 7th grade traveling to Junction to play the Eagles.
