Ozona's Jesse Vega voted Standard-Times Football Player of the Week

OZONA'S JESSE VEGA VOTED STANDARD-TIMES FOOTBALL PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Ozona High School's Jesse Vega was voted the Standard-Times Football Player of the Week for his performance in Week 8 of the 2020 season. The senior quarterback completed 4 of 8 passes for 118 yards and a TD, and he carried eight times for 114 yards and two TDs in the Lions’ 40-0 win over Brackett. There were 3,088 votes cast in this week's voting, and Vega finished with 713. Second was Hunter O'Banon from Sonora, who had 587 votes. Other nominees were Junction's Isaiah Gonzales, Eldorado's David Barajas, Coleman's Corbin Rosales, San Angelo Central's Malachi Brown, Robert Lee's Ivan Escamilla and Mason's Gage Watson. Past winners of the award were: Week 1, San Angelo Lake View’s Tristan Franklin; Week 2, Lake View’s Albert Rodriguez; Week 3, Dylan Hostetter, Ballinger; Week 4, Cross Knittel, Sterling City; Week 5, Lake View's Albert Rodriguez; Week 6, Lake View's Austin Bandy, and Week 7, Christoval's Jake Boness. Voting for the next Player of the Week will begin Monday afternoon.
