Ozona High School's Joe Perez was voted the Standard-Times Football Player of the Week for his performance in Week 9 of the 2020 season. The senior running back rushed for 145 yards and two TDs, averaging more than 10 yards a carry and scoring on plays of 34 and 33 yards in Ozona’s 55-20 win over Harper. There were 3,804 votes cast in this week's voting, and Perez finished with 1,361. Second was San Saba's Risien Shahan, who had 1,149 votes. Other nominees were Sterling City's Damian Calderon, Miles' Brayden Dunlap, Christoval's Westen McAllister, Brady's Hayden Baronet, San Angelo Central's Jalen Leifeste and Water Valley's Harley Davis. Past winners of the award were: Week 1, San Angelo Lake View’s Tristan Franklin; Week 2, Lake View’s Albert Rodriguez; Week 3, Dylan Hostetter, Ballinger; Week 4, Cross Knittel, Sterling City; Week 5, Lake View's Albert Rodriguez; Week 6, Lake View's Austin Bandy, Week 7, Christoval's Jake Boness; and Ozona's Jesse Vega.
