AREA BASKETBALL ROUNDUP: OZONA GIRLS DOWN SHORT-HANDED NO. 25 CHRISTOVAL
Ozona High School defeated No. 25 Christoval 29-21 in a District 7-2A girls basketball game Friday in Ozona.
The Lady Lions, who have now won three consecutive district games after winning none in 2019-2020, led 24-9 going into the fourth quarter and held off the Christoval rally.
Ozona (7-11 overall, 3-2 in district) opened district play with two losses but have won the last three. Christoval (15-4, 4-1) dropped its first game since Dec. 1.
Christoval's roster was without senior guard Graci Jones, who is set to continue playing basketball next year for Angelo State University.
Ozona opened the game with a 10-4 first quarter and extended the lead to 16-6 by halftime. The Lady Lions outscored Christoval 8-3 in the third quarter to take a 13-point lead going into the fourth.
Shelbie Galindo scored nine points to lead Ozona. Kallie Montalvo scored eight to lead the Lady Cougars.
Ozona hosts Eldorado on Tuesday while Christoval travels to Fort Hancock.
