EARLY LEAD FOR WINK SEALS FATE FOR OZONA LIONS VARSITY
Ozona Lions Varsity watched the game slip away early and couldn't recover in a 7-1 loss to Wink on Saturday. Wink took the lead on a double in the first inning.
The Ozona Lions Varsity struggled to put runs on the board and had a tough time defensively containing Wink, giving up seven runs.
Wink got things started in the first inning when Payne doubled on a 0-1 count, scoring one run.
Wink scored six runs in the fifth inning. Wink's big inning was driven by singles by Denton and K. Gibson, a triple by Morgan, and a double by #17.
B Gibson led things off on the mound for Wink. The bulldog surrendered one run on six hits over seven innings, striking out three and walking one.
Lane Smith was on the pitcher's mound for Ozona Lions Varsity. The pitcher lasted four and a third innings, allowing eight hits and six runs while striking out five. Max Everett threw one and two-thirds innings in relief.
Jesse Vega led Ozona Lions Varsity with two hits in three at bats.
Wink tallied ten hits in the game. Ward, Morgan, and Denton all managed multiple hits for Wink. Ward led Wink with three stolen bases, as they ran wild on the base paths with six stolen bases.
