This weekend, the Lady Lions competed in the 2023 Angelo Relays. Despite the windy conditions, the girls had a great meet and represented Ozona well. We had several athletes advance to the finals, which is a feat in and of itself at this meet as we compete against 3A and 4A schools. The individual races had anywhere from 5-8 heats and only top 7 times advanced, so making the finals was a big deal. All 3 relays also advanced to the finals. Natalie Rodriguez finished 8th in the 100M dash and didn't originally advance to the finals; however, due to someone scratching, she was able to run in the finals and made it on the podium with a 2nd place finish! Kelyn Gass- 1st in the 100M hurdles Ysa Esparza- 3rd in pole vault Brylee Gutierrez- 2nd in the 300M hurdles Raelee Garza- 6th in the 300M hurdles Mia Davison- 5th in long jump 4x100M relay (Jaylynn Tijerina, Brylee Gutierrez, Faith Quiroz, Natalie Rodriguez)- 3rd place with a season best 51.38 4x200M relay (Kelyn Gass, Natalie Rodriguez, Faith Quiroz, Brylee Gutierrez)- 4th place with a 1:49.71. This relay ran a 1:48.84 in the prelims, which is a season best. 4x400M relay (Raelee Garza, Ysa Esparza, Mia Davidson, Claire Bean)- 5th place with a 4:21.82 Overall, the team placed 5th out of 22 teams behind 4A Monahans, 4A Andrews, 3A Wall, and 3A Alpine.
